James Chatburn announces sophomore EP "Damen", dropping new single "Darling I Missed Your Call".

Following on from Soulection released " Omens ", Damen showcases James' incredible development as an artist. From the sparse production, guitars and lush vocal layers of "Omens", to the D'Angelo leaning "Darling I Missed Your Call", the Australian singer, songwriter and producer shows a dexterity of genre inline with peers such as Jordan Rakei, Gabriel Garzon Montano and Nick Hakim.

"Darling I Missed Your Call" Is a collage of sound combining rough synth bass, gritty guitars, playful trumpet lines and a hard hitting beat, resulting in a steady groove which demands your attention. As the pulse moves on the music constantly warps and changes, constantly adding and removing musical textures and motifs.
The Prince-inspired beat is topped off with simple yet impressive
vocals from James Chatburn, in his signature style, which effortlessly moves to falsetto and back.

The Story So Far

In 2015 James Chatburn moved across the globe from Australia to explore life as a musician in Berlin. During this time, James released very few pieces, giving listeners a glimpse of what to expect, while he made music from a small room in a dilapidated old office building, left over from the years of the German Democratic Republic.

In the time James has been living in Europe, he has supported The Internet on their German tour, he was invited to take part in Redbull Music Academy’s Bass Camp 2017, collaborated with Grammy-nominated  Jordan Rakei , and featured on certified gold single " Higher " by Australian hip-hop legends Hilltop Hoods ,

After years of writing music with nothing more then a pen and a guitar, James has maneuvered his way into the world of production and completed ‘Damen’.
Partly recorded in Redbull studio’s Berlin, his Album is to blend band style performance and arrangement with Electronic Beats and Synthesis, forging a rhythmic soulful style, with a Lo-fi Indie sensibility.
Often compared with singers such as John Legend and James Blake, he not only boasts overdriven blues guitar styling’s when performing, but makes use of synthesizers and effects.

Damen is an EP which begins with James' Soulection 6th Birthday compilation addition. Over the course of the EP this evolves into a grittier self produced guitar driven exploration of soul, blues, rock and electronic music. Lyrical themes ranging from subjects of love and sex, to capitalism and tragedy, James' intense soulful voice will lull you in and out of moments of fragility and and intensity.
