Jamey Arent ft. Raquel Rodriguez - "How Far We've Come" [Music Premier]

June 21, 2019 by Travis Erwin in Music, Soul
“A stunning player, straddling blues, jazz and rock.”
— Guitar Player Magazine
“Oh yeah, feel that funk in the bass line. But get ready for the smooth vocals that are coming until they give away to pure energy and soul around the 1:45 mark. And that guitar a short time later. This single connects all of the dots between a classic sound, and a soulful, contemporary hit. ”

BIOGRAPHY

What does it mean to be a virtuoso? Is it the mastery of one’s craft? Being a veteran in a particular art form? Showing prodigious characteristics early on in one’s career?

If these are the benchmarks of talent, then Los Angeles-based guitarist and songwriter Jamey Arent checks every box.

Born in Denver, Jamey picked up the guitar at the age of 12 and by 18 he was studying under legends Robin Eubanks and Bob Ferrazza, cutting his teeth and honing in his chops at Oberlin Conservatory. It was here that Jamey began to carry the torch of modern day blues, jazz and rock guitar stylings.

In the years since his completing his training at Oberlin and earning his masters degree at USC's Thornton School of Music, Jamey Arent has built up an extensive resume touring with a variety of notable acts such as Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons (which included a PBS Capitol Fourth live TV special with Jamey on lead guitar), Glee’s Matthew Morrison, Spencer Day, and Grammy-nominated singer B. Slade. His guitar playing can be heard on Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Ed Helm's Ted Nelms, the Netflix Original series Special, and backing artists like Smokey Robinson and Trombone Shorty on the soundtrack to the Netflix series Motown Magic. For the last eight years, Jamey has been touring and recording with indie R&B/Soul artist Raquel Rodriguez.

Through all of this, Jamey has learned not only the art of guitar but also the art of songwriting. Drawing from fellow contemporary guitar masters like Derek Trucks and Joe Bonamassa, as well as legends like B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan, his debut EP, ‘The Back Burner,’ sees Jamey step out from the sides of the curtain and take center stage.

For his debut, Jamey recruited esteemed producer/guitarist Josh Smith. The two of them worked side-by-side to make this dynamic project come to life. Also featured are Nigel Hall (Lettuce, Soulive), Charles Jones (Raphael Saadiq, Andra Day, Vulfpeck), Amber Navran (Moonchild), Spencer Day and Jamey's collaborator and friend Raquel Rodriguez.

Together with the help of his friends, Jamey Arent has crafted a record only a lifelong virtuoso could create, bringing blues & jazz-funk fusion into the modern world.

'The Back Burner' is out everywhere July 19, 2019.

Drew Scott - "Simple"

November 19, 2017 by N3 On The Track in Music, R&B/Soul

2x Grammy nominated producer/singer-songwriter Drew Scott takes it back to the basics with his sultry single, “Simple”. The sought after producer/writer who has worked with the likes of Teyana Taylor, Zendaya, Nick Jonas, Luke James, Bridget Kelly, Dawn Richard and Fantasia wanted to pay homage to 90’s R&B group Zhane, Marvin Gaye and when life was a lot easier.

“I think we don’t appreciate how simple life and love could be if we went back to the basics,” says the singer. “It’s easy to get distracted in this day and age of constant comparison with one another and everything. If we went back to the beginning and remembered those feelings, everything else would fall in place.”

“Simple” is available on all streaming platforms.

LUXXURY - "Pleasure!"

November 10, 2017 by N3 On The Track in Music

Los Angeles DJ/producer LUXXURY aka Blake Robin continues his streak of quality disco singles with his latest original, the piano-house tinged gem “Pleasure!” Adding new sonic colors to his signature sound (shimmering rhodes, funk bass guitar, balearic beats) are collaborators Zach Robinson (D/A/D) on Rhodes and flute solo, and Becca Schack (Beca) doubling the mimimalist vocal: the song has literally just one, single word.

Robin explains how the song came together: “I dialed up a beat and Zach found these dope, Steely Dan-like chord changes while I played bass, and this awesome track came together in a less than an hour. For vocals I challenged myself to beat the short-but-sweet lyrics kings Daft Punk (‘Around the World’) and Duck Sauce (‘Barbara Streisand’) but it turns out its hard to write a one word song without sounding like a 50’s surf band (“Wipeout!”, “Tequila!”). However as soon as I tried the word ‘Pleasure’, its evocative onomatopoeia worked perfectly and gave the sunny beats some added sexual heft.” To fully flesh out the sensual vibe LUXXURY recruited indie pop songstress (and LUXXURY-produced protegée) Beca to share vocal duties. The result is another dancefloor masterpiece from the West coast don of disco.

ABOUT LUXXURY: In 2013 an unknown LA-based producer started to drop a series of unofficial bootleg remixes on an empty Soundcloud profile. Using only original multitrack stems for a number of famous songs including Eagles' "Hotel California” Duran Duran's "Girl on Film” and many more, they were called "LUXXURY edits” and they immediately caused a sensation in the disco underground. As a result of the attention he received from the Wall Street Journal, LA Times, Vice and more he began to get commissioned remix work from artists such as Greg Wilson, Melanie Martinez and Fitz & The Tantrums. In 2016 Luxxury released a series of original singles, formed a live 4 piece band that opened for Giorgio Moroder, Juan Maclean, Kraak & Smaak and appeared on NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly; and received coverage from outlets including Majestic Casual, Spin and Complex.

LaDonnis - "Touch"

November 10, 2017 by N3 On The Track in Music, Rap, R&B/Soul

LaDonnis' latest single, Touch, for his upcoming project 'A Sunny Place for Shady People' is here. His sounds of the past are now marrying an oceanic beach vibe coupled with a melodic hook. This eclectic deviation lets LaDonnis ascend to a different space in his sound. Enlisting help from Boy Boy, and Chelsea Jade, the track mixed by Dula is paving the way for a new project coming from the previous XXL freshman. It's sure to keep you reminiscing of that once lost love that you don't keep in touch with, no more.
