About the artist:

Born and raised in Dubai, UAE the singer-songwriter carved out the beginning of her musical career performing across almost every local venue in the city. With her acoustic guitar in one hand and her passion for the arts in the other, she quickly racked up a string of shows juggling between playing covers and a handful of originals, in hope of seeing what her next step would be.

Reaching what she ultimately felt was a plateau in her journey, she soon decided to undertake in creating her first official release with the new and upcoming local producer Rayan. Embarking into a new direction and sailing into a significantly unexplored genre of music in the Middle East, it wasn’t long before the spirit of her first EP, “Alter Ego” came to life.

Bringing her childhood inspirations to the forefront of her music, whilst discussing themes often subdued, Shébani represents the first female singer-songwriter to embrace the challenges of modern day relevance in music whilst embodying the significance of reflection.

Alter Ego:

They say some things are better left unspoken, but with “Alter Ego” the notion is put to the test. How do we decide what things should be said? When is the line crossed when speaking truths? Shébani examines the aspects of turmoil, regret, the lines that define loyalty, and the lines that break them. Enrolling producer Rayan to shape the music behind those topics, the EP peeks through the keyhole of what is unexplored within ourselves.

After a long stint of attempting acoustic and Indie, “Alter Ego” was born when Shébani re-evaluated her musical direction and decided to follow her urban upbringing. Returning to her childhood influences of Contemporary R&B, Pop, PBR&B, and Hip Hop, the aim was put together an EP that represented her journey to date. With Rayan to dictate the instrumentation and lead the production, it wasn’t long before the spirit of the EP would represent the harshest truth; the alternative side to her personality she was uncovering was simply who she was all along. The songs encapsulate the inner struggles of finding the bravery to expose yourself to the world. Rather than lamenting on the presence of a hidden side, the 6 tracks on “Alter Ego” explain the various burdens that come from concealing your true self.

Using dark insipid keys over urban glitch beats, the album takes a fresh swing at redeveloping the modern-contemporary R&B sound of today. Using the unconventional blending of electronic and classical instruments together, the EP intentionally drives at creating a sonic mood of unrest and an atmosphere of neglect.

“Alter Ego” makes us question the intent and quality of our social circles, relationships, identity, and idea of loyalties. The EP forces the listener to decide for themselves the value of gut instinct, and how much they truly value intuition.

Steve DaMar Releases 'Never Had Shit' Music Video

July 26, 2016 by N3 On The Track in Music Videos, Mixtapes

'Never Had Shit" is a single from Steve DaMar's debut mixtape "Hard Times of The December Seed".

Steve DaMar is a 24 years young Hip-Hop/Experimental artist born & raised in Lynwood, California. Throughout many of the tracks on his mixtape he refers to the struggle of growing up in his city, but this track gives you 2 perspectives. It highlights his current focus. Grinding with his team (URANIUMEnt) & just doing normal shit you think any rapper would do. Then it gives you a piece of his struggle in the earlier years growing up. I quote "Momma sheddin tears eviction notice on the rug, know there's something better we just dont know as of what. Sleepin' in my car used towels to cover up, & my alarm was when the sun comes up".

Then once more the focus of the song switches to a present perspective of all the hard work & sacrifices paying off. "Now everywhere I go man they know a nigga name, I autographed a photo they put in a picture frame". Talked with Steve recently & he told me about his last show in Las Vegas. A couple female fans came up to him after his performance ecstatically showing their love saying how much they love his music & how long they've been supporting. Told me it was one of the best feelings he ever had.

I feel alot of people will be able to relate to this track to receive the message he mentioned in his verse. I quote "The struggle aint the lesson, it's how you make it through".
