Call Me Ace - No Assistance [Music Video Review]

December 18, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Hip-Hop, Conscious

Rating: 4 out of 5

“With an uplifting backing that feels like a choir urging you on, Call Me Ace drops his truth with sharply written lines and a rising passion that builds as the track progresses. This track is part of NBA 2K21 in game experience so while many will hear ‘No Assistance,’ it is vital that you take time to stop and digest the lyrics for the full experience to land.”

K.M. - Not Everybody Lives [Review]

December 14, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap, Hip-Hop, Conscious

    Rating: 4 out of 5

“The truth delivered here in these lines ... Everybody dies, ‘Not Everybody Lives’ ... is a sentiment we have heard before, but K.M. drops this hook amid a lyrical build that feels both passionate and earnest. The flow is steady and deliberate, yet still conveys a heartfelt belief that makes every word land with conviction. It is this, that allows the track to break through and land in a meaningful way.”

Santino x Mir Fontane - What is Hell Like? [Review]

December 04, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap, Hip-Hop, Conscious, Autotune

      Rating: 4 out of 5

“The unique tone caught me first, and the strong writing kept me leaning in. Both flows deliver a nice bit of passion and emotion and the beat production feels right for the track — hitting hard at times, but staying out of the way where need be.

’What is Hell Like?’ ... well I can tell you Hell is not listening to good music and talented artists like this, so the question will have to be answered another day for me.”

Blame My Youth -Dance With My Demons [Music Video Review]

December 02, 2020 by Kreadiv Kesh in Music Videos, Conscious

        Rating: 5 out of 5

“Blame My Youth is a unique name but reminds you why you are the life of the party even when you are older. ‘Dance With My Demons’ reveals a constant battle many of us experience. Lyrically the song speaks on addiction, trials, and tribulations. Regardless of age or gender everyone has a problem some of us fight it while some of us get tired of fighting urges and voices in our head so we just dance with our demons. ”

Born Allah - "Jabril (Let the Horns Blow)" (feat. Rakaa of Dilated Peoples) [Review]

December 02, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Hip-Hop, Conscious

          Rating: 4 out of 5

“Born Allah teams up with Rakaa on this track to come straight at you here with a flow that demands your attention. The confidence and razor sharp wordplay provide the hook, over the top of a horn and percussion heavy track created by German beatsmith Zpu-Zilla, which finished off an energetic track with yet another layer that refuses to let you turn away.

Born Allah’s new album Analog Baby drops January 7th. ”

November 20, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music Videos, Rap, Hip-Hop, Conscious, Autotune

            Rating: 4 out of 5

“There are no shortage of tracks calling out haters and naysayers, but FCG Heem gives us a little something different with the laid back easy going vibe of his track, ‘Haha.’ Lyrically the flow is easy to follow and and settle in on and overall the vibe is light and airy coming with an almost island like vibe at times.”

Evan from Heaven - The Way It Is (ft. ill civilian) [Review]

November 18, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap, Hip-Hop, Conscious

              Rating: 3.5 out of 5

“Sometimes a track just works with a simplistic, heartfelt delivery. ‘The Way It Is’ landed for me in such a way.

Evan from Heaven delivers the track with a stripped down, no frills flow that works in a genuine and honest way. The production behind the track stays out of the way, while still managing to add a bit of emotion to the groove. I did find myself wishing the track were a little longer and took the lyrics just a bit further.”

Dax - GOTHAM [Music Video Review]

October 31, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music Videos, Hip-Hop, Conscious, Autotune

                  Rating: 4.5 out of 5

“An early line delivers this message ... What did you expect when dumb people got smart lines.

I knew right then, Dax was saying something I wanted to hear. ‘GOTHAM’ puts a spin on the famous city of Batman fame by tying it to our everyday lives and the state of our society. DAX, as always, infuses passion into his flow and the writing is sharp and poignant, in this slow tempoed yet oh-so-powerful track. The video is as engaging as the single.”

Conor Michael Smith - With You In Mind [Review]

October 30, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Hip-Hop, Conscious, Commercial, R&B

                    Rating: 5 out of 5

“There are a lot of pissed-off angry voices out there and everyone of them brings merit, though Conor Michael Smith brings a passion and ernest that unexpectedly hits harder than most.

The emotions of the production behind him, especially that violin along with a hard hitting flow, really gripped me. Smith is part of a movement in this country that is demang change and this track is one of the anthems for that charge.”

“Death is coming but now a days we are becoming so numb to it. Artist Clay Dub’s new single ‘Tell Me Why ft. Neezy’ delivers authentic pain and real life questions. Why is it when we see people die we can no longer cry?

Shot in black and white to show more emotions this lyric video takes to the neighborhood, every day locations that turn into crime scene. The question is why? Why so many bodies laying on the ground? ”

The writing comes with a solid hook, and the vibe is made all the stronger for the way it is unfurled around the beat rather than on top if it. The flow is engaging and the lyrics wryly sharp, making this a track you can easily connect to, and fall in step with. ”

Covaboy - Second Wind [Music Video Review]

October 05, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music Videos, Rap, Hip-Hop, Conscious

                                Rating: 4 out of 5

“Packing a lyrical punch that delivers power and truths of the world we live in, Covaboy’s track, ‘Second Wind’ is the kind of song that sticks with you long after the last note.

Coming with an old school 90’s Rap vibe, the beat and flow are direct and unflinching. The haunting vocal sample frames the piece well and really adds an emotional layer to the track.”

                                  Mighty - Faith [Review]

October 04, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Hip-Hop, EDM, Conscious

                                  Rating: 4 out of 5

“Lean in and pay attention, because Mighty is going to keep you on your ties with his latest single, ‘Faith.’

In a track that brings in a wealth of styles and sounds across multiple genres, MIghty gives us a track that feels big, bold, and inventive. The fact this arrangement was able to pull off such a mix without coming across as a song trying to do too much speaks loud of the talent involved.”

Don’t be fooled by the ‘Oops’ and mocking tone of his latest track, he ain’t playin’ play. This is aa fun lively track full of wry humor and swag in pure Yung Gravy style. Get on board and have some fun by checking out Yung Gravy’s entire new album, Gasanova, which is out now.”

Eon MC Etc. & Alkaline23 - Why You Doin It? [Review]

September 29, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Hip-Hop, Conscious

“The flow comes with a low-key groove that allows the intricate lyrical progression to unfurl with ease. This allows the listener to truly connect with the words, and while tranquil in its approach, the flow does emote a nice bit of passion and emotion. The words feel true and real, while establishing a rhythm that pulls you along and keeps you leaning in on the track.”

Dex Channels - Last Sunday [Review]

“Vulnerable honest is not a vibe that makes its way into the Hip-Hop world as oftena s it should, but at times you find that one track that simply lays it out in such an engaging way you can’t help but fall in. Such is the case with ‘LAst Sunday’ from Dex Channels.

Dex Channels, formerly known as Backstreet Peejay, is a based out of Orlando, FL. After a car wreck left his neck fractured, Channels had a change of heart which resulted in the artist’s rebirth and rebranding. The accident changed the whole pitch of his voice and this left Channels uncomfortable with his new sound for a little while making him adapt to new creative pockets. Hence, he gravitated towards a more limitless identity and sound. He’s a boundless artist who’s brand pushes the listener to be their original self.”
