Jet Black Alley Cat - Rewind [Review]

February 21, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Indie Pop, Commercial

Rating: 4 out of 5

“Jet Black Alley Cat brings a decidedly Indie Pop Retro sound with ‘Rewind.’ The thing is does it harklen back to the 80’s ... yes at times. The 90’s ... absolutely the vocal brings that flavor. The early 2000’s ... yes absolutely. So how the hell does the track still feel fresh and contemporary? The answer to that is true talent is often timeless and far reaching and this is the kind of track that is right at home in any decade.”

    AjGod - Never 2econd [Review]

February 19, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap, Hip-Hop, Conscious

    Rating: 4 out of 5

“The beat and backing of ‘Never 2econd’ adds an emotional level to a set of lyrics that hits steady and unrelenting. This combination sets a mood and emotion that would not be possible without the tandem sound. Too many tracks today never consider the impact beat and melody play on delivering the message, but here, those elements bring as big an impact, as the outstanding writing and delivery. The tone is steady with very little variation overall, yet the flow engages with its truth and passion, brought forward by AjGod. ”

Lil Lyn x Charles Weaver - Crazy [Review]

February 18, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap, Hip-Hop, Conscious, Contemporary R&B

      Rating: 4 out of 5

“Weaving two flows together, into one seamless track is not an easy production feat, but ‘Crazy’ manages to do exactly that. The Rap flow does the heavy lyrical work on this track about the love you can’t quite have or give, however the chorus comes by way of an R&B vibe that hits first and is woven throughout the track to add another layer to the emotions of the single. ”

        Jeda N & Kofi - Forgiato [Review]

February 17, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap, Autotune

        Rating: 4 out of 5

“Some tracks simply deliver a vibe that is tough to fully explain. ‘Forgiato’ from Jeda N & Kofi is exactly such a track.

The beat and rhythm are alluring and engaging and the tone mesmerizing. Lyrically, the track delivers some lines that swing hard, but taking each individual element of this track does not do the entire vibe justice, because together the track is far stronger than any one thread. This is the kind of single that builds within you and stay with your long after the last beat. The kind of track that compels you to play it on repeat.”

teamwork - Wasted Summer [Music Video Review]

February 17, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Electro Pop

          Rating: 4 out of 5

“That first real love is always magical, especially when it comes after you have stepped out into the world as an adult, and life truly feels like it belongs to you.

This track, by teamwork, captures those emotions and distills them out into the world in Electro Pop glory. The track is sharp lyrically, and the duo of voices express them very well.

The imagery of the video is a perfect addition to truly bring the track alive. A fun song with a good vibe perfect to usher warmer weather in. ”

Jonathan Shapiro - Diamonds in The Rough [Review]

February 15, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap, Hip-Hop

            Rating: 3.5 out of 5

“This track brings a chill vibe offering uplifting lyrics. The vibe here is a low-key reminder to us all that we can weather whatever storm is raging in our lives. The vocals are heartfelt and steady in their message. The delivery is not pure perfection, and that works well here, as it only highlights the message that much more than we can get where we want to be without being perfect every step of the way.”

Ijahdan Taurus x Echo Lair - Summit [Review]

February 14, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Hip-Hop, Conscious, Reggae

              Rating: 4 out of 5

“Delivering a nice Hip-Hop flow over a Reggae vibe, ‘Summit’ is both chill and intense at the same time.

The prevailing mood is calming and smooth, but lyrically the track has a depth that is worthy of deep reflection. Of course you can ignore that aspect and simply fire one up while letting the calm Reggae waves wash over you, just as easy as you can lean forward and dive into the words enough to break down the deeper meaning. That is the beauty here is that the track offers both in equal doses and vocally, the tone is the perfect compliment to both takes.”

On The Outside (OTO) - Forever [Review]

February 14, 2020 by Kreadiv Kesh in Music

                Rating: 4 out of 5

“OTO comes in very nice and relaxed in tempo. I can hear myself singing forever uhuh ...with them. Then they lead in with a emotional tale of having forever at one point but then forever being gone. They are genuinely group that reminds you of all the CLASSIC boy band groups before them that you miss oh so much”

Devin Kennedy - Happy Yet [Review]

February 14, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Commercial

                  Rating: 4 out of 5

“Devin Kennedy has a voice that simply draws you in with its smooth groove and tone. The beat here is a bit erratic, and normally that would bother me, but given the nature of the lyrics it works well here.

The song deals with the constant chase. How we see images and posts of things that we think we want, but the more we go after and find them, the more apparent it becomes that our happiness does not lie in t e pursuit of the material things we see others proclaiming to bring them joy.

Happiness is more selfish and absolute to us individually, and finding those things is not always easy. So getting caught up emulating others is a pitfall we’ve all fallen into.”

                    Rating: 4 out of 5

“We have all been in that position where we have to play something off as if we don’t really give a damn. Especially in matters of the heart, when we put ourselves out there only to get denied. Gran Cavallo has captured that mood with a nice Rock vibe. The staccato tempo brings out the emotion of the lyrics nicely here. Sort of an Anti Valentines vibe to this one that will no doubt speak to many people on this day, as well as many others.”

“This track is as much Soul as it is Hip-Hop, but don’t take that to mean it is less than a fine example of both genres.

The fusion here is intriguing and the writing impeccable. The emotions shine through in the performance. This is the kind of track that will mean more to you with each subsequent listen.

Detailing the differences between two sides of a relationship, the single is for everyone that has gotten deep in their head, while trying to analyze where they stand and how they feel.”

Gavin Haley - The Way I Am (feat. Ella Vos, Luke Korns, Olivia Rouyre) [Music Video Review]

February 07, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Commercial

                          Rating: 4.5 out of 5

“The video has a retro feel and the single itself has that same timeless quality that good music often delivers.

Gavin Haley and Ella Vos team up here to bring a track about the intricacies of a relationship where the parties are struggling to better know each other, while still holding back the emotions that it takes to get there.

With a smooth pop groove, that hints at an almost contemporary Country sound at times, this track isn’t really about genre, as much as it is emotion. This is because the single transcends the categories marketers use, and is simply about the humanity of our hearts.”

“The writing here is spot on perfection. Vocally, the first few lines felt a touch dated for me, but then the track took a turn and felt purely modern from then on. The beat and melody add to the whip-smart lyrics and make this track so sharp you simply cannot escape the hook.

The tale of a jaded lover considering a reconciliation, but only after the gets the damn answers she needs. Attitude prevails and pulls you deep into this relationship even if you’ve never been there yourself.”

Authentic truth fills every line and that elevates the rest of the track. There are no unnecessary embellishments to the production or delivery as College and HeRo straight up deliver this well-written single.”

“This track puts into words the vibe many a dude has been faced with after falling in love. None of us set out to become a ‘Sad Corny Fuck,’ but when those emotions stat to boil up and out of us, that is what happens.

This tracks was produced by recent GRAMMY darling FINNEAS, and it does carry the same emotional impact that his work with Billie Eilish, but JP SAXE’s masterful vocals carry the day here and I can’t wait to hear more music from SAXE.”

MDS Bella x Lil Bling - Pull Up [Review]

February 07, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap

“MDS Bella captivated me with her aggressive whisper style of rapping. Far too many rappers, of both genders, seem to believe that volume is the key to expressing themselves, but this track proves that passion and strong writing do not need over the top theatrics to get the point across.

Delivering lyrics rooted in her Memphis heritage and speaking her mind about injustice and politics, MDS Bella is a voice to keep tabs on. ‘Pull Up’ is a track to engage your mind and spirit. ”

Brandon Hunt - Don't You Call Me [Review]

“When the bridge is torched and left to burn, there are people standing on both sides. Sometimes we are holding the match, and sometimes we are left staring in disbelief at the embers.

This tracks is about the latter, except for the bridge was torched long ago and now the person wants to come back over to your side. Brandon Hunt delivers vocals that express the emotion quite well in a singer/songwriter style. With a touch of rawness and vulnerability, the performance isn’t pitch perfect but in the broken notes we truly feel the pain, and that’s where this track truly comes alive.”

Gina Livia - in my head [Review]

“The musical vibe of this single is light and airy, but lyrically the song delivers a mood much darker. Over a nice Pop groove, Gina Livia lays down her lyrics of feeling isolated and alone. Being stuck ‘in her head’ and not willing to put herself out there. The track feels real and her vulnerability comes across in the performance as she longs to overcome these feelings in order to live life to its fullest. ”

                                        “The morning after regret.

We’ve all been there in one form or another. The cadence and arrangement of this track adds to powerful lyrics to truly deliver that mix of panic and shame as you try to unravel exactly what you did the previous night. Not knowing can be almost as bad as knowing full well you crossed several lines you should not have.

The vocal performance here is spot on and mysterious, though in the track I heard it cuts offs very abruptly and I can only assume that was a glitch in my advanced copy. Nevertheless, this is a track that hits home. ”
