Jesse Gold - One in a Million [Review]

September 16, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Neo-Soul, Indie Pop, Contemporary R&B

Rating: 4 out of 5

“Expressing your feelings is never easy and quite often we turn to liquid courage to speak our heart. ‘One in a Million’ is a Pop-ish, R&B track about two lovers reluctant to admit they are falling for one another in a lasting kind of way. Jesse Gold shines here as does his duet partner and the two voices combine to keep the listener emotionally invested.”

Wax Owls - Set it Free [Review]

September 16, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Folk, Commercial

    Rating: 4.5 out of 5

“In what is the debut single for Wax Owls, ‘Set It Free’ is a big soaring brand of Commercial Folk. Falling into a stratosphere somewhere between Mumford & Sons and Tom Petty the band’s sound feels lively and emotional on this track. Lyrically, the song is about moving back and sort of facing your past while acknowledging the roads you’ve traveled. ”

Confetti - People Suck (2020 Remix) [Review]

September 15, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Alternative, Pop, Rock

      Rating: 4.5 out of 5

“True to their name, Confetti comes at you with a party song. ‘People Suck’ might not be a conventional party song, but then there hasn’t been a damn thing conventional about 2020, so perhaps this is the party song we all need right now.

This track is easy to belt out and song along with, and despite the revelry in style, it comes with some serious observations and thoughts.

Cue this up as a barroom anthem for the day we can all gather together and drink once again.”

VENMC x ALI - Bunker Bitch [Review]

September 14, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Hip-Hop, Conscious, Alternative

        Rating: 4 out of 5

“Capturing the anger of both a generation and much of a nation, VENMC and ALI pull no lyrical punches while calling out Trump, as well as those who still support the Reality TV personality turned politician.

’Bunker Bitch’ takes on the cowardice and bigotry of the man and administration directly giving us a hard-edged track rife with passion and indignation.”

          Itz Jaleel - PokerTable [Review]

September 12, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap, Hip-Hop, Conscious

          Rating: 4 out of 5

“There is no gamble to adding this track to you playlist. ‘PokerTable’ is a fiery track from Itz Jaleel that comes with a siren-like beat and a steady flow that drops the lines you can’t escape from.

My favorite portions of the track where when the production dropped away and left the flow to land hard and heavy.”

September 12, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Electro Pop

            Rating: 3.5 out of 5

“I loved the writing here. There is a power and truth to these lyrics that will really make you stop and think. The arrangement of the track and production did not quite rise to the same level as the songwriting for me, but there is clear talent hear and the words need to be heard and thought about as we look to better define our thoughts and ideas in regards to women.”

              Khamari - That Girl [Review]

September 12, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, R&B, Contemporary R&B, Commercial

              Rating: 4.5 out of 5

“Khamari perfectly captures that moment when you spot her, the one that you will do anything to spark a conversation with ... all in the hope that from there a relationship will bloom and blossom.

’That Girl’ has a definite Frank Ocean vibe to it and the track is one that just feels like the euphoric triumvirate of love, lust, and hope.”

Neon Dreams - Don't Go Hating Me Now [Review]

September 12, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Pop, Alternative

                Rating: 4.5 out of 5

“Watching a friend fall and slip into a bad place is tough, but so is reaching out and helping them by speaking the truth. In those instances the friend can resent you and the help you are offering. Neon Dream offers a Pop Rock refrain of this phenomenon. ‘Don’t Go Haring Me Now’ is full of heart and hope and human kindness but also comes with emotion and talent and energy.”

Fiona Harte - What Is Loving Anymore [Review]

September 10, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Singer/Songwriter, Folk

                    Rating: 4.5 out of 5

“Fiona Harte mesmerizes with her emotive vocals on this dazzling emotional track. The Northern Irish singer songwriter has a hint of Dolly to her tone, and a whisper of Joni Mitchel in her soul, but here on this track, Harte’s talent stands alone in the spotlight with both an outstanding vocal performance and a stellar bit of songwriting which combine to captivate the way few artists are capable.”

                      Gabrielle Current - Undercover [Review]

                      Rating: 4 out of 5

“Smooth and sultry, this Jazz infused R&B track by Gabrielle Current is pure unadulterated emotion, which is ironic given that the lyrics are all about going ‘Undercover’ to protect your emotions from the dangers of falling in love.

The vocal delivery is sensual and soft ... but so very mesmerizing, and that steady beat backing a piano heavy melody keeps the listener under the spell of the music.”

’How I need It’ is pure party in song form. The back and forth flow with Kiara Simone’ a shameless simulation of male/female flirtation as they both try to stake their role in what is sure to be a wild, fun-filled night for both.”

“Clever wordplay and an energetic vocal delivery are the beacons in this ode to Lois Lane. Actually, the track is an ode to the women that empower us all to soar to greater heights.

Scott Helman utilizes a repetitive tone to deliver some words that style will land for some, and no doubt miss for others, but the spirit of this song was refreshing for me and the writing shined bright in my eyes. Here’s to ‘Lois’ delivering a punch to the charts that even the Man of Steel could appreciate.”

                              PRIZM - Lose You [Review]

September 04, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Electro Pop

                              Rating: 4 out of 5

“PRIZM unleashes an energy-filled Electro Pop anthem with their latest single ‘Lose You.’

Conjuring hints of the Pop classics from the 80’s and 90’s, this single is able to captivate with an infectious hook and groove that is quite inescapable. Pure Pop fun with enough lyrical resonance to speak to us all.”

Olivia Grasso - Every Room [Review]

“A big, boisterous track that at times reminded me of Kelly Clarkson, ‘Every Room’ is a triumph for Olivia Grasso.

Grasso has an energy about her vocals, and an uplifting spirit behind her songwriting, which combine to make this energetic track come alive. ”

Abby J Hall - All I Wanted [Review]

“You get what you give ... is an expression we’ve all heard. Taking that idea a bit deeper than most usages of the expression, Abby J Hall uses the lyrics of ‘All I Wanted’ to express the idea that we all need to lower our walls in order to form the intense connections that make any relationships truly meaningful and strong.

Within the song, she sings .. I hate being vulnerable,’ but ironically, Hall does exactly that on both her stellar songwriting and the emotive performance of this track.”

                                    LACES - worship [Review]

“LACES once performed to success under the name Charlotte Sometimes, but a series of life events and personal decisions have led to her burying that name, both literally and figuratively.

In more ways than one, ‘worship’ represents a rebirth, and in the dark moodiness of a stellar vocal performance, lurks an emotion and depth that breaths life into this track, as well as the new direction of LACES renewed career.”

“This track is a perfect example of the beat and melody doing the heavy lifting in regard to the prevailing emotion of a song. The vocal delivery hints at a desperate yearning and almost pained morose, but at times choose a monotone delivery which works for the emotions involved. Such a track can lose its energy and feel flat, but the production behind the flow kept this track alive and tangible, allowing you to feel the lyrics in a way you might not have otherwise. The performance is spot on, but in a very subtle way.”

OZ - Murder [Music Video Review]

September 04, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Indie Pop

“Oz has the kind of alluring vocals that speak straight to the soul, and her latest single is powerful in title, as well as emotion.

’It’s a song about the moment it really hits you that someone’s trash and they’re bad for you,’ says Oz of her single, ‘Murder.’

The video utilizes stock footage in a montage that managed to capture the vibe of the track as if each scene were created specifically for the project. A mesmerizing Indie Pop ballad that feels melancholy in a self-reflective kind of way.”
