Rett Madison - Skeptic's Angels [Review]

September 16, 2021 by Travis Erwin in Music, Americana, Indie Rock

Rating: 4 out of 5

“Rett Madison give us a tender and vulnerable track about losing touch with that faith and wonderment we all have as kids but lose as age and skepticism takes over. The need to believe in something remains leaving us all a bit disjointed at times and this track beautifully captures the emotional struggle of being a realist but also letting go and simply trusting in something or someone. ”

Toby Johnson - California [Music Video Review]

September 14, 2021 by Travis Erwin in Music, Singer/Songwriter

    Rating: 4 out of 5

“Toby Johnson offers up a track revealing his daydreams and desires over getting out and exploring the world once again. Maybe he’ll find love and maybe he’ll simply find a warm stretch of beach under the brilliant sunshine, but either way ‘California’ is calling.

This track does a good job of capturing the wonderment of our fantasies as we all long to take off and explore the world once again. This is all the more true after a rough 18 months or so that has kept us all closer to home than we would like. ”

Mack Imagine - Frosted Flakes [Review]

September 14, 2021 by Kreadiv Kesh in Music, Commercial

      Rating: 4 out of 5

“Most people travel to LA to pursue their dreams but Mack Imagine’s new single “Frosted Flakes” is about finding a new love. LA has so much to offer and despite it being so big you can really find happiness with it. Even if you start being there alone you can find someone to enjoy the experience with you. ”
      — Kreadiv Kesh [LA On Lock Blogger]

Mack Imagine is a singer-songwriting pop duo based in Southern California formed in 2020. During the pandemic, Matthew Zeko (guitar, vocals) and Jack Brady (piano, vocals) decided to quit covering songs--and started to write their own. Reaching from their life experiences and musical influences, the two began to quickly create their own aesthetic through their vocals and guitar melody writing.

Scrilla King - Blame You [Review]

September 14, 2021 by Kreadiv Kesh in Music

          Rating: 4 out of 5

“Sometimes when things go wrong we tend to blame ourselves. This isn’t the case in Scrilla King’s new single I “Blame You”. He speaks on different situations where the person he relied on wasn’t there at all. This song delivers a different rap cadence that allows you to be really pulled in and appreciate the artist’s delivery.”

FCG Heem starts off with his in his new single “Hood Story” .He takes us down a time line of having to grow up faster than he expected but using his story to build him into the star that he is today. From counting money to counting blessings he speaks on how the biggest struggle and triumph was waking up every morning despite what was going on. He found success and survived.”

Cami Petyn - Psycho Bitch [Music Video Review]

September 12, 2021 by Travis Erwin in Music, Pop, Electro Pop

              Rating: 4.5 out of 5

“Cami Petyn has a sound and attitude that feels like Gwen Stefani meshed with Miley Cyrus. Petyn is fed up with entitled men and their self-inflated egos and ideas they can take what they want. ‘Psycho Bitch’ offers up in your face lyrics and attitude that lets you knew she is in charge and the world better step back and recognize that fact. Yes a world full of arrogant men who have convinced themselves they are far more important than they actually are. This is Pop but that doesn’t mean the lyrics do not have something vital to say.”

Alias Molombo x Blahzay Blahzay - Let's Get It [Review]

September 10, 2021 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap, Hip-Hop, Conscious

                Rating: 4 out of 5

“Straight up old school style — with fresh and contemporary lyrics to bring the past forward to knock on today’s door. The flow comes with attitude and confidence and the beat infuses hype and energy the way too few tracks do these days. If you’ve been missing that scratch and boom bap beat, then this is the single you’ve been waiting for. Get it and get in on this track. ”

                  Ryan Cassata - Mattress [Review]

September 10, 2021 by Travis Erwin in Music, Indie Rock, Hip-Hop, Singer/Songwriter

                  Rating: 4 out of 5

“Regualr readers of LA on Lock will realize we have featured several tracks from LA artist Ryan Cassata, but this track certainly has a different vibe than those other songs. Cassata is talented and that fact shows in the diverse sounds and styles we have heard, though one constant is the strong writing and this track again offers that.

This track has an Emo Hip-Hop vibe that underscores the Pop sensibilities.”

“I am a sucker for a good story song and a murder ballad certainly fits the bill. okay so Mia Mormino’s track isn’t exactly a ballad with its jazz infused energy and retro scat vibes, but it the story of a pissed off and fed up Burlesque dancer ready to exact her revenge on the men who expect more from her than she is willing to give.

Mormino’s talent brings it all to life and the writing is dead on. Pun intended. My only wish is there was a bad ass video to give some imagery to this track. ”

The beat production and groove are easy to fall in on and the lyrical flow resonates for anyone that has ever had a hard slog to try and get ‘Out Tha Mud,’ so to speak. The tone of the flow works well with the autotune and production dynamics keeping the listener leaning in and on the hook. ”

Kajé - Tear Us Apart [Review]

September 09, 2021 by Kreadiv Kesh in Music Videos, Music

                                Rating: 4 out of 5

“The sounds of R&B is missed. Kajé brings it back in “Tear Us Apart.” The beat is a smooth emotional tempo as the soulful vocals come over it. Singing from the heart but in an understanding manner giving the formula to healing scars and making someone feel special. ”

                                  John Adams - Ripcord [Review]

September 09, 2021 by Travis Erwin in Music, Singer/Songwriter

                                  Rating: 4 out of 5

“Skydivers pull their ‘Ripcord’ to stop their freefall and open the parachute to safely land. This song is about falling in love and how their is no ripcord or safety device to make falling in love gentle and easy.

John Adams offers a timeless vocal style that is both emotive and heartfelt. This is a track to add to your relationship playlists or to share with the one you are falling for. The track offers a big bold progression that easily carries you along.”

Chloe Lilac - 10 Things [Music Video Review]

“Chloe Lilac does not pull any punches in her latest single, ‘10 Things.’ Never piss of a writer and especially a songwriter as they can and will use those emotions to fight back. The writing here is strong and the emotion behind the delivery works well in this revenge track of sorts. There is a Pop, almost Punk vibe that hooks the listener in and keep them invested in the lyrical build. ”

DJ Zenas x Ramond - The Spot [Review]

September 03, 2021 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap, Autotune

“Labor Day brings both party vibes, and a subtle brand of sadness as you realize summer is coming to an end. This track from DJ Zenas captures both of those vibes.

’The Spot’ comes with a groove and rhythm that feels like sipping a cold drink beside a warm pool, but the party is coming to an end and with that limited time this single feels like a Sunday afternoon as another long weeks looms ahead.

The dynamics here gives you all the feels.”
