Helenor - Bad2 [Review]

Rating: 4 out of 5

There is a razor thin line between feeling like you’re flying or you’re falling and Helenor walks that tightrope like most seasoned Cirque Du Soleil performer. Every line is bittersweet and contradictory, my favourite being “It’s a perfect day, to spiral down the drain”. The production is breezy and the vocal so nonchalant it feels like Helenor is just pouring his heart out to you over whiskey... no ice.

Weston Estate - Slowly [Review]

Rating: 3 out of 5

I could literally shoot bittersweet love songs into my veins... I’m not sure what that says about me BUT what I do know is ‘Slowly’ is a beautiful brooding ballad. “We don’t got love like we used to but I still holding you close” is such a raw and honest lyric. Sometimes we know its not same but something familiar feels better than nothing...right?

NappyHigh x Raekwon x Westside Gunn - From The Projects [Review]

Rating: 4 out of 5

An ice-cold soul sample, gritty drums, Raekwon AND Westside on the same record what more could you ask for? Both Emcees bars are razor sharp and NappyHigh chopped the **** out of that sample. If this is any indication Nappy’s LP ‘Menace’ is about to be a masterpiece.

Guami x 95 Goldie - Mickey's Nightclub [Review]

Rating: 4 out of 5

Mickey’s Nightclub feels like riding in old school Impala but at the same time you’re wading through molasses. The sample is so syrupy and just pulls you under. The flows are laidback but still have fire and passion.

OXLADE Ft. Dave - Intoxycated [Review]

Rating: 3 out of 5

Picture the scene. You’re in a swanky bar in London, a rum & coke in one hand, doing gun fingers with the other... and the person of your dreams has their back on your front and your dancing until the early hours. Intoxycated is one of those lowkey club anthems with a chorus you can scream at the top of your lungs riding the wave of the night. The verses are smooth and every melody feels plucked from King Davids harp.

BOŸBAND GKFAM - On Purpose [Review]

Rating: 3 out of 5

Sometimes you just wanna ride around with your homies and feel like the s*** and nobody can tell you a thing. On Purpose reminds me of feeling invincible with your homies... feeling like the world is still your oyster. It doesn’t sound jaded. Its mean yes but still optimistic. Now excuse me while I cruise around LA to this with the homies.

MEL. The 8th - SHOVE!

Rating: 4 out of 5

Is there such a thing a melancholy mosh pit?...
This chorus is infectious and raw. The whole record is raw AF. The beautiful strings juxtaposed over IGNORANT drums is glorious. Excuse me while I go yell ‘SHE WILL NEVER LOVE ME BACK’ while a make more morning coffee and think about the one that got away.

KennyHoopla - keep a window open//

Rating: 4 out of 5

This record feels like pure kinetic energy. I challenge you to listen to this song and not move your body. There is a tender bittersweet pining for a moment lost which is all too real. You know what they say about closed doors, and open windows...

Paul Russell - Lil Boo Thang [Review]

Rating: 3 out of 5

Sometimes a record can be so infectious it can seep in the very fabric of the ether. Lil Boo Thang is everywhere and well its for good reason... it’s fun! Music went through a period of taking it self too seriously and Lil Boo Thang harks back to the funk days of just making you feel good and wanna dance. We need that right now.

Tim Schou - Ashes [Review]

Rating: 3 out of 5

Ashes is a glorious masterclass in restraint. Tim could have gone all out with vocal acrobatics but thats not what song is about. Ashes is a tender lullaby of reflection and self-honesty. We love the high and are terrified of the come down and Tim paints that fall with strokes of melancholy and quiet resolution.

Sycosis - Peoples & Folks [Review]

Review: 4 out of 5

THIS HOOK! Thats it that thanks guys *drops mic*. But seriously some times a hook is so catchy yet venomous it makes you wanna get reckless and amped. The record does everything I want a rap song to do. Paint a vivid picture of your perspective, hit hard AF and give me something so catchy I wanna say it without warning mid conversation. Next time someone asks me what I’m tryna do they’re getting “I just wanna hoop, I just wanna ball” rapped at em. I’m calling it now Sycosis is one to watch. Be sure to check out his LP Pre-Approved.

Skyler Day - The Best Worst Thing [Review]

Rating: 3 out of 5

Break ups hurt theres no way around it. They suck, like really SUCK...BUT... If you’re really lucky you get that magical gift of hindsight. You see that that break up was ‘the best worst thing’ for you. Sklyer floats atop airy guitar driven production raining down on us with poetic honesty. Some lessons in love are only ever learned that hard way, but a song like this makes you know you’re gonna be ok.
