Tom. G - Tore Down The Projects [Review]

March 24, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap

Rating: 4 out of 5

“Gentrification is not an easy topic to put a humorous spin on, but somehow Tom. G accomplished to do so with ‘Tore Down The Projects.’ With rasp to his voice and a fast but not rapid flow, the vocals deliver the catchy hook and wit-sharp lyrics about the way things used to be for a player. The track delivers upbeat energy and a wry spirit that put a smile on my face. ”

Kate Dinsmore - That Ain't Me [Review]

March 24, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Singer/Songwriter

    Rating: 4.5 out of 5

“Kate Dinsmore has the kind of voice that makes you lean in and listen. ‘That Ain’t Me’ is the kind of song that defies genre and pulls people in, because of the emotional resonance. That feeling that love brings things you never bargained for is one that hits us all at time point.

Dinsmore’s delivery is soulful and folksy and big and bold. Sometimes all at once. This is a song to feel, as much as hear.”

      Alexis Roussiaux - Butterflies [Review]

March 23, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Singer/Songwriter, Commercial

      Rating: 4 out of 5

“Fluttering in on the wings of a beautiful guitar melody, ‘Butterflies’ is a soft and delicate love song that captures that flight of fancy our emotions and stomach goes on when we are near that special person.

Alexis Roussiaux delivers a tender, Mayer esque, performance that couples can easily dance to, and/or add to their playlists dedicated to each other. Perhaps the song is made all the more romantic in that it comes from the French, Roussiaux.”

        Cam Carter - Shadows [Review]

March 22, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Hip-Hop, Conscious

        Rating: 4.5 out of 5

“Cam Carter’s hard hitting and emotional vocal flow dominates this track, but like most ‘Shadows’ the intrigue first comes from the haunting darkness, and this track begins with a beautifully dark vocal chant. The old school Boom-Bap flow hits with stellar writing and is punctuated by Carter’s intensity.

Lurking in the peripheral is that haunting chant that adds just a bit of an Indie songstress giving this hard hitting track enough commercial appeal to appeal to the hard edged Hip-Hop fan as well as those who gravitate to more commercial sounds. Carter walks that line well by maintaining his conviction in the vocal flow. ”

Bstar - Tweety ft. Boosie BadAzz [Review]

March 22, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap

          Rating: 4 out of 5

“The energy of BSTAR and Boosie BadAzz make this southern banger, one you can ride along with.

Detailing the actions of clingy sidepiece who can’t get enough, there is a bit of humor here that we all need about now. The track has that spirit of defiance and attitude that makes it fun. The flow is fast and steady and the lyrics sharp enough to keep you listening close through multiple plays. ”

Nonamus - Lean Back (Feat. Devonchyy) [Music Video Review]

March 20, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Commercial

            Rating: 4 out of 5

“Nonamus comes right at you in ‘Lean Back.’ An alluring beat and energy dominate this track which grabs you and pulls you along for a good time. The imagery of the video expresses this very thing and the melody shifts into a nice funky surf rock groove from time to time. The second flow featuring Devonchyy adds another engaging element to keep you on the hook for the whole ride on this one. ”

              Rating: 3.5 out of 5

The beat and melody are pure Electro Pop and the vocal talent holds it all together with a smooth flow that is easy to follow and song along with. This song establishes a mood and vibe that will resonate well across genres.”

Elliott Taylor - Cali (feat. Cut Chemist) [Review]

March 20, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Commercial, Alternative, Rap

                Rating: 4 out of 5

“The vibe here pulls you in and holds you, especially if you are lucky enough to call ‘Cali’ home. The melody and beat have a few surprises, and I dig that old school scratch added in there. The vocals are soft and steady and deliver the message with a clarity that can only be expressed by true belief in what you are saying.

This is a track to sit back and groove to why you smoke and reflect on your California lifestyle.”

                  GO79MAN - EVO7VE9 [Review]

March 20, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Rap, Hip-Hop, Conscious

                  Rating: 4 out of 5

“A chill vibe ushers in GO79MAN’s vocal flow which carries a raspy gravel behind earnest and honest lyrics. There is an energy behind his flow that keeps you leaning forward despite the fact there is not a ton of variation to the delivery. The track’s strength is the vocal talent and obvious conviction behind the message.”

“Alex Scott is taking a swim in the pool Michael Jackson built and Bruno has been swimming laps in recently. ‘I Got It’ is Pop Funk that will no doubt remind some of Timberlake as well.

Scott’s vocal talent shines bright with this performance and the energy is undeniable, making this a track worthy of your time and energy.”

This remix is a track that delivers both engaging vocals and an energetic production to get you moving. So grab the one you are sequestered with; the cat, the dog, hell grab the broom if you must, but toss you hair back and move to the music because it is important to get up and groove. ”

The vocals are engaging and carry enough emotion to pull you in. Genre wise the track is tough to pin down but for comparison it falls somewhere between Jimmy Buffett, Ed Sheeran, and Zac Brown. ”

“Jillian Steele has a voice that pulls you in immediately, and her single ‘No Expectations’ is one that has more to offer than an engaging performance and intriguing melody.

Co-written by Michel Heyaca and James Shelley (American Authors), the track was written during a period of uncertainty and confusion to narrate how things happens for a reason. in discussing the song, Steele reveals, ‘Life was happening around me and I was just in it without any control and through this song I gained insight that I do deserve things and I should have expectations of what I want.’

Taking control of emotions is what many artists hope to do with their work and Steele show that with her talent on this track.”

“Cereal is a traditional breakfast food made from grains, however Lenii’s brand of ‘Cereal’ is her new single. She shakes it up and pours it with a classic eerie beat as she talks about how words can not hurt her. Even at the 2 mark she went simple with a pause but it still keeps you listening. This is a track you should check out on her forthcoming EP. ‘In All Fairness’”

Matt Carstens - Why Him [Review]

March 17, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Indie Pop

                                Rating: 4 out of 5

“The guitar intro catches attention from the start and then Matt Carsten’s talented vocals take over the show.

’Why Him’ is a track for anyone a bit jaded about that ex that wants to come back and lean on you after their next doomed relationship. Being a crutch for another’s ego or insecurity is a tough position to be in especially if you still harbor feelings yourself. This energetic Pop track is one that many of us can relate to.”

Kafar Myers - True 2 Self [Music Video Review]

March 17, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Hip-Hop, Conscious

                                  Rating: 4 out of 5

“Kafar Myers has something he wants to say, maybe even needs to say. Often that is the element glaringly missing in modern Hip-Hop, where what is being laid down doesn’t matter as much as one big hook and a mumbled flow over a sick beat. But Myers is ‘True 2 Self’ here with his earnest and heartfelt lyrics delivered so that you can hear and feel every word. Truth and passion are all any talented artist need to rely on to give us a listening experience worth the time and Myers delivers both on this track.”

Katie Toupin - Don't Wanna Die [Review]

March 17, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Alternative, Pop, Rock

                                    Rating: 4.5 out of 5

“No, ‘Don’t Wanna Die’ is not about the virus dominating the news cycle as well as most of our thoughts, but the sentiment is timely just the same.

Actually, the lyrics were penned about the need for sobriety, and the single comes via a unique vocal tone delivered by Katie Toupin. There is just a hint of Amy Winehouse, both lyrically and musically, but you can feel the genuineness of the words in the performance which strongly suggests personal experience, rather than fandom of another artists is at the heart of this track. That fact gives this single the power to captivate and intrigue no matter what kind of times we are living in. ”

Sophia Gripari - Clear to Me [Review]

March 16, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Commercial

                                      Rating: 4 out of 5

“Finding clarity in the midst of a relationship can be tough, because emotion clouds your judgement like nothing else. This track is about finding that clarity of mind, though through this piece you will have no trouble distinguishing Sophia Gripari’s talent as her vocals shine from the beginning of this single. The production is clean and matches the overall vibe of the song making this a single that is easy to connect to and groove along with beyond the final note.”

Nya Crea - Only You [Review]

March 16, 2020 by Travis Erwin in Music, Singer/Songwriter, Commercial

                                        Rating: 4 out of 5

“Nya Crea honors the 60’s soul singers that inspired her with this track inspired the idea of unconditional and everlasting love.

The track certainly feels like a throwback early on, though the chorus delivers a decidedly contemporary feel that lends the track a modern spin along with the Pop-Soul sound of yesteryear.

This is the kind of song that will be played for years to come at wedding receptions as a first dance for happy couples beginning their lifetime together, but is just at home on your personal playlist when you want to think about the one that speaks to your heart.”
